Tobias Duke graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2022 from Castleton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Associate of Science in Business Administration. He subsequently graduated in August 2023 from Castleton's Master of Business Administration (MBA) program with a concentration in “Leading Organizational Change”.
Outside of his academic studies, Tobias has been an “Accompanist” for the Needham Public Schools since October 2022, working with their middle school select choir, in-school 6th grade choruses, the high school choruses, and at various elementary schools for choral and string ensembles. He has also been teaching private lessons at Needham Music as a “Voice & Piano Teacher”, working with students of varying ages and differing skill levels.
Beyond his current positions, Tobias most recently served as “Music Director & Pianist” for Medway High School’s production of “Peter Pan”. In this role, he was responsible for teaching the vocal parts to the cast as well as conducting the pit orchestra in rehearsals/performances (covering crucial parts of the Piano/Celeste book in the performances as well). Prior to this, Tobias played at Andover High School as their “Keyboard” player for their November 2022 production of “Cinderella” (he also collaborated with their students as the “Collaborative Pianist” for their annual Broadway Cabaret in October 2022).
Additionally, Tobias worked on Norwood High School’s production of “Grease” as their “Music Director & Pianist”. For the role as “Music Director”, he was responsible for teaching the vocal parts to the cast and was the pit orchestra’s pianist/conductor for the performances. Beyond his role as MD, Tobias simultaneously served as the “Rehearsal Pianist” for the production, collaborating with the Director and other production staff during their rehearsal blocks.
Preceding the role at Norwood High School, Tobias had the privilege of serving as “Assistant Music Director” for Castleton’s Spring Musical production, “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder”. In this role, he coordinated with the show’s Vocal Director, Dr. Sherrill Blodget, to assist in leading rehearsals and served as the show’s rehearsal accompanist (he also played the Keyboard part in the productions' all-student pit orchestra).
Other pit orchestra credits include “Big Fish” (Intended Keyboard I, Castleton University, Spring 2020), “Disney’s High School Musical on Stage” (Keyboard I, Saint Joseph's Summer Theater, Summer 2019), “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” (Keyboard II, Needham High School Senior Production, June 2019), and “Catch Me If You Can” (Keyboard I, Castleton University, Spring 2019).
Outside of his pianistic pursuits, Tobias have performed as a baritone in such roles as Marchese/Dottore in "La Traviata” (Barn Opera, Oct. 2021), The Page in Barn Opera's annual production of "Amahl and the Night Visitors" (Dec. 2021, 2019), Lieutenant Shaw in “Secret Garden” (Needham High School, Spring 2018), Eugene in “Grease” (NHS Students Acting to Make a Difference, Fall 2017), and as the Understudy to Major-General Stanley in “Pirates of Penzance” (NHS, Spring 2017).
As a musician, Tobias always enjoys working as a Collaborative Artist and helping others perform at their best, whether it be as their accompanist or supporting on stage myself. As a person, he always enjoys working with people and helping them reach their goals.
